Abstract
Merkabah and Heḵalot literature is the oldest manifestation of Jewish mysticism, being prior to medieval Kabbalah. Developed throughout the Late Antiquity and early Middle Ages, after collecting many of the ideas of apocalyptic literature, Merkabah's works reflect the different practices carried out by different teachers. These, generally apart from traditional rabbinism, sought the experience of contemplating the presence of God based on the vision of the divine chariot of Ez 1. The list of texts that collect these practices is extensive, and throughout these pages it is intended introduce the profane reader to this semi-unknown Jewish literature.
