Abstract
What German Nazi critics called Entartete Kunst (degenerate art) is now considered a valid model of artistic protest. It is not just a matter of restoring it to the position it should never have lost due to political disregard, but also of highlighting the factors that made this chapter in art history possible, with the aim of ensuring that nothing similar ever happens again. Art is human expression and, as such, must be protected by the right to freedom.
